Quick Info: Do You Know? Facebook Picture’s File Name/URL Contains Uploader’s Profile ID

If someone sent you an image URL from Facebook, or image file saved directly from Facebook, you can actually get the uploader’s profile ID from the image file name/URL. This post will tell you how to get the uploader profile of a picture from Facebook.

So, back to the basic, every Facebook profile has a unique profile ID. If you look at a Facebook profile URL, http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=n, n is where the unique profile ID for a Facebook profile is located. The unique profile ID is actually embedded in the file name and URL when a user uploads a picture to Facebook.

For example, let’s take a look at this picture URL from a Facebook profile.

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs408.snc3/24713_413931002118_604502118_5121698_1325306_n.jpg

As you can see, the filename for the picture is “24713_413931002118_604502118_5121698_1325306_n.jpg”.

The 3rd number from left in the filename (in this case, 604502118) is actually the unique profile ID of the uploader.

So, the Facebook profile URL for the picture uploader is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=604502118.
