Nero Alternative, 8 Free CD/DVD Burning Software
Submitted by whiztech on Wed, 11/19/2008 - 10:59
If you use Nero before, you should noticed that you are not using most of the features that came with the default installation, especially if you are looking just for the basic CD/DVD burning features. The latest Nero 9 is becoming more bloated, with more than 350MB installation file, and it take 1GB of space after installation.
In this post, I will list 8 free CD/DVD burning software. If you are looking for the simple alternative for Nero, you can try the software listed below. The first 2 is my personal favourite.
1. ImgBurn
ImgBurn is a lightweight, yet powerful CD/DVD/Blu-ray burning software. What I like the most about ImgBurn is you can control most of the burning configuration including the advanced controls. ImgBurn also has the ability to create ISO images.
ImgBurn provides you with the advanced configuration. The interface of ImgBurn is quite complex, and might not be very suitable for non-technical users. If you are looking for a burning application with advanced control options, ImgBurn might be for you.
ImgBurn is a burning software. There are no built-in options to create audio or video CD/DVD. You can however use external tools to create audio/video CD/DVD images and then burn it with ImgBurn. ImgBurn is available for Windows.

Web Browser Memory Usage: Firefox vs Flock vs Internet Explorer vs Opera
Submitted by whiztech on Tue, 06/10/2008 - 04:11I am actually a heavy tab user, usually every time I am browsing the Internet, I opened average 10 tabs and maybe more. My desktop PC is running on 2.66Ghz Pentium 4 which is quite slow for a heavy tab user like me. I’ve tested a lot of browsers that doesn’t require a lot of resources even when opening lots of tabs. So far, I found that Flock 1.2.1 is very suitable for me. Flock is a browser with Web 2.0 features, built on Firefox. Flock 1.2.1 is based on Firefox 2.

Submitted by whiztech on Sat, 01/26/2008 - 00:19As mentioned in my previous post before, Halite is one of the best torrent client to bypass traffic shaping (at least it works with TMNet). Some bugs are fixed in this version.
Changelog from v0.3 to v0.3.0.2:
1) Fixed a bug with Tray Icon remaining after window was restored.
2) Torrent Connection and Transfer setting mapped to incorrect editbox.
3) Subtle bug where some settings didn’t register straight away.

Re-encode Anime to Save Space
Submitted by whiztech on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 06:13Got tons of anime? Don't have much space to save them, and you don't feel like deleting them?
Solution.. re-encode! Reduce the size, and just have a minimal quality lost.
Below are the screenshots before and after re-encoding using this method.
