Creating Offline Yahoo Messenger Installer

While you can just download the offline Yahoo Messenger installer from the web, you can actually create or find it yourself. If you are installing Yahoo Messenger on lots of PC, the offline installer will eliminate the waiting time to re-download Yahoo Messenger files.

1. Download the Yahoo Messenger online installer as usual. Run the installer.

2. Empty your system temporary folder. You can go to your system temporary folder easily by typing %temp% in Run. Usually you won’t be able to delete all the files in the temp folder. Just make sure you keep the folder empty as possible.

3. Run the Yahoo Messenger installer as you normally would. Before you press Install, browse the folders in your system temporary folder, and look for the folder with ymdc.exe (1) inside it. The folder should be newly created with random numbers and words (that is why you need to keep the temporary folder as empty as possible so you can find it easily).

Look for ymdc.exe. Take note of ymsgr_inst_us.exe later.

4. Press install, the installer should show 'Downloading Yahoo Messenger'. During this step, the installer is downloading the offline installer, ymsgr_inst_us.exe (2). Look in the folder with ymdc.exe in the 3rd step. The file size of ymsgr_inst_us.exe should increase as the download continues.

5. When the installer is in the step of ‘Installing Yahoo Messenger', quickly copy ymsgr_inst_us.exe from the temporary folder and paste it somewhere safe (on your Desktop for example). The installer will delete it after the installation process finished.

6. Tada... you got yourself the offline Yahoo Messenger installer, ymsgr_inst_us.exe. You can save the installer so that you can use it later when you need to re-install Yahoo Messenger. However, there's not much you can do with the installer. The installation of Yahoo Messenger with the offline installer will be done in the default directory, shortcut icons on Start Menu, Desktop and Quick Lunch will be created.
