Mozilla Firefox 3.1 alpha “Shiretoko”: Disabling the New CTRL+Tab Feature
As we all know, Mozilla has recently released the alpha 2 version of the latest Mozilla Firefox 3.1. Some changes from Mozilla Firefox 3 to Mozilla Firefox 3.1 alpha 2:
Changes in alpha 1:
- Web standards improvements in the Gecko layout engine
- Text API for the <canvas> element
- Support for using border images
- Support for JavaScript query selectors
- Several improvements to the Smart Location Bar
- A new tab switching behaviour
Changes in alpha 2:
- Support for the HTML 5 <video> element
- Initial support for web worker threads
- You can now drag and drop tabs between browser windows
- Ability to make use of Aero "Glass" in XUL
- Support for CSS 2.1 properties: ::before and ::after, and white-space:pre-line
- Support for CSS 3 properties: -moz-border-image, word-wrap: break-word, text-shadow, box-shadow and column-rule
- Performance improvements and new preference values for color management profile support
The new CTRL+Tab switching behaviour was introduced in alpha 1. This feature will bring up a filmstrip view of your recently visited tabs. Pressing CTRL+Tab will cycles you through the thumbnails of the websites that you’ve visited in order.
Somehow, I don’t really like the new CTRL+Tab feature. I’m very comfortable with the old method (pressing CTRL+Tab opens the next tab).
To disable the new CTRL+Tab feature, type about:config in Firefox address bar. Skip the warning message. Type ‘browser.ctrlTab.mostRecentlyUsed’ in fiter, and change the value of ‘browser.ctrlTab.mostRecentlyUsed’ to ‘false’ (1). Restart your Firefox to see the changes.
