My Best Personal Deluge BitTorrent Client to Optimize Download
Deluge BitTorrent Client is one of the best BitTorrent client to bypass traffic shaping, especially in Malaysia. The previous version before Deluge 1.x, the Windows port is not very stable. The 1.x version of Deluge for Windows seems to be very stable for me. The latest version of Deluge is now a full featured BitTorrent client. Deluge BitTorrent client is also available for Linux and Mac OS X.
After playing with the configuration, below is my personal best configuration for Deluge to optimize the download speed. You can use it if you want, and feel free to tweak it according to your needs.
1. First of all, Windows users that use P2P applications should have their tcpip.sys patched. Download the half-open fix to patch your tcpip.sys. I recommend any value more than 100.
2. In the Network section of the Preferences dialog, set the port to be used by Deluge. I recommend you to use 1 static port (I use 33333 (1)). Enable the ‘trackerless’ DHT tracker (2) and Peer Exchange (3). If you behind router/firewall, I recommend you to set up the port forwarding on your router manually, and you can disable the UPnP and NET-PMP. For encryption, choose Enable (4) for Inbound and Outbound connection, select Either (5) for encryption level, and enable ‘Encrypt entire stream’ (6).
3. As for bandwidth configuration, I use these settings:
Global Bandwidth Usage
(7) Maximum Connections: 300
You can set this value to 500 or more if you are running on a more powerful system.
(8) Maximum Upload Slots: –1 (unlimited)
(9) Maximum Download Speed: –1 (unlimited)
(10) Maximum Upload Speed: 35
The maximum upload speed for Deluge should be 80% of your total maximum upload speed.
(11) Maximum Half-Open Connections: 100
(12) Maximum Connection Attempts per Second: 100
This is the value for the ‘attempted connections’. If you are running on a fast system, you can use from 150 to 200, but not too much.
Per Torrent Bandwidth Usage
(13) Maximum Connections: –1 (unlimited, but it will not be more than the maximum global connections)
(14) Maximum Upload Slots: 5
(15) Maximum Download Speed: –1 (unlimited)
(16) Maximum Upload Speed: –1 (unlimited)
For other settings, you can just leave it to the default value. You can also tweak it to suit your BitTorrent download configuration. Your download speed however, will greatly depends on your internet connection, seeder/leecher ratio and seeder/leecher upload speed.
Hope you will find this post useful! Feel free to share your configuration too.
