This simple hack will enable Winamp to play .MKV (Matroska), .MP4, .RMVB (RealMedia), .MOV (QuickTime), .OGM (Ogg Media File) and .FLV (Flash Video) files. By default, Winamp cannot play those files.

UUhh.. I cannot play those files.. yet.. =(

First of all, make sure your system has all the required codec to play those files. If you are unsure, I highly recommend K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and QuickTime Alternative for you. You will get most of the codec you required for video and audio playback with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (including RealMedia files) and with QuickTime Alternative, your system can play QuickTime videos. You must make sure other DirectShow players (WIndows Media Player, Media Player Classic) can play those files.

Here are the steps to enable .MKV, .MP4, .RMVB, .MOV, .OGM and .FLV files in Winamp:

- Open Winamp Preferences.

- Go to Plug-ins > Input (1). Select Nullsoft DirectShow Decoder (2) and click Configure (3)

- By default, the DirectShow configuration for Winamp should look like this.

- Finally, add ";MP4;MKV;MOV;RMVB;OGM;FLV" into the extension list (without the quote, " symbol). Each extension should be seperated by a ";" symbol. This option will tell Winamp to play .MKV, .MP4, .RMVB, .MOV, .OGM and .FLV files using DirectShow filters.

P/S: Why I love Winamp? The simple queue manager and how Winamp handles my huge Music collections. =)
