XMedia Recode: All in One Video and Audio Converter, Encode Video for Mobile Devices Easily

Since I don’t do much video encoding for mobile devices, I have to admit that I am comfortable to use a simple video encoding tool that just works to do the job easily without much hassle. If you are looking for an all in one video/audio converter software, especially to encode video for mobile devices playback, XMedia Recode might be the software for you.

Basically, XMedia Recode is a GUI for FFmpeg, an open source complete, cross-platform solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. XMedia Recode can encode and decode major video/audio containers and codecs such as 3GP, 3GPP, 3GPP2, AAC, AC3, AMR, ASF, AVI, FLAC, FLV,H.261, H.263, H.264, M4A, M1V, M2V, M4V, Matroska(MKV), MMF, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, TS, TRP, MP2, MP3, MP4, MP4V, MOV,QT, OGG, PSP, SWF, VOB, WAV, WMA and WMV. XMedia Recode can also use unprotected DVD as the video source.
What makes XMedia Recode really great to encode video for mobile devices is the built in presets setting, and there are a lot of them. As for version 2.2.2.9, there are more than 530 built in presets.

Viewing Veoh in Blocked Countries

Veoh is a Youtube like service that allow users to find and watch major studio content, independent productions and user-generated material.
Veoh.com started to block viewers from various countries started from 31 May 2008. The block occurred due to low concentration of visitors from the countries, according to a representative of Veoh.

So far visitors (IP addresses) from Asia, Europe and South America such as the countries listed below have reported being block, experiencing a similar message for their region. (from Wikipedia)

If you are a Veoh addict, and simply cannot live without it, you can actually bypass the block. One of the easiest way to bypass this block is by viewing Veoh via proxy servers located in United States. However, I’m not sure if this method can be used with VeohTV.
I recommend this site to find US proxy servers. This site provides direct list of US proxy servers so you don’t have to check it manually to find where the server is located. To find your proxy server, click any detailed list (example). Select any proxy servers from the list, take notes of its ip address and port.
Below are the steps to enter proxy server configuration in Firefox (and Firefox variant) and Opera.
Firefox (and Firefox variant)
Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Settings (in Connection) (1)
Select Manual Proxy Configuration (2), enter the proxy server address in (3) and the proxy server port in (4)
Opera
Tools > Preferences > Network > Proxy Servers (5)
Tick HTTP (6), enter the proxy server address in (7) and the proxy server port in (8)
Notes:
I only recommend you to enable proxy only when viewing Veoh. Do not trust any proxy server and never do logins when you surf using proxy servers. Hackers might install traffic sniffers to steal your passwords. Not all proxy servers on the given site are working. If you got error, try another proxy server from the list.
Some proxy server list sites give the address of proxy server by <ip address>:<port> format. For example, a proxy server with 128.112.139.71:3128, the address is 128.112.139.71 and the port is 3128.
Viewing websites using proxy servers can be slow especially if the proxy server is overloaded. You can download the flash video and play it offline.
